A new website

by stefanhendriks on October 6th, 2010

From now on. Dune II – The Maker (D2TM from now on) is hosted at fundynamic. It was a matter of time really. Fundynamic is a website I host for 5 or 6 years now. It holds a collection of all my projects.

For a long time D2TM has been hosted by Nahoo at, many thanks for that. Since the upgrade of the servers, and the result of that: a broken website. I had thought of fixing it myself , or simply starting fresh at Fundynamic.

So here we are. And D2TM is very much alive. Although I must admit that Starcraft II is really claiming a lot of my time. If you want, you can play a match against me.

Either way, D2TM is progressing. Rewriting code takes time, and it breaks things. It also brings oppertunities to make things better. Along the rewrite progress I am pondering about the direction D2TM will head to. My expectation will be that D2TM will become a new game of its own. It will probably break with the old missions in further releases (though I do not expect that to happen with the upcoming release). I will focus mainly on the skirmish games and the whole ‘multiplayer’ ย part of the game. More on that later!

Oh btw, you can now register and leave comments to posts now.

  1. Congrats on the new website. Please don’t break the old missions! Can we have a ‘classic’ mode and a new one? Please?? ๐Ÿ˜€

  2. Well, the old missions might survive, but they would need to be adjusted a bit to make them still work. More generally, if i want to adjust balancing in the game, and force certain rules on all players (and not let AI cheat, as it does in the original dune 2), then I must adjust the levels in order to have a playable AI at all ๐Ÿ˜€

  3. Please don’t cut out the old missions. Maybe it’s an idea to create a whole new storyline which continues on the old one?

What do you mean by AI cheating? That the computer builds Rocket Turrets or other buildings on top of your vehicles? Or when you play against AI Harkonnen and you capture a Heavy Factorey the first Devastator you build for your own money will ‘accidentally’ be AI owned?

    • I mean that the AI sometimes has enough power in missions, while it can’t have enough (ie, think of the last mission, there are simply too few windtraps to power all houses).

Yet, the rocket-turrets work and such.

The other things you mention sound like real bugs :). My intention was more towards the playability.

      • The bugs I mention happen to be in the original Dune II – The building of a Dynasty. Do the opponents have enough power in the original games’ last mission? I never counted the power consumption of their bases.
I do not expect to experience these bugs in your beautiful remake.
