One of the biggest additions since v0.8.0 is a fully in-game map editor, built by Mira — one of the major driving forces behind D2TM’s continued development. You can now create and edit skirmish maps without leaving the game, and play them immediately. Curious? Check out the Bleeding Edge Builds!

Getting started

The editor is accessible straight from the main menu. You can either load an existing skirmish map to modify it, or start from scratch with a new empty map. Once you’re done, the map is saved directly to the skirmish/ folder and shows up in the skirmish map selection screen right away.

What you can do

  • Paint terrain — select tile types from the sidebar and paint them onto the map
  • Place spice — add spice fields using topology-aware placement
  • Set start positions — define where each player starts on the map
  • Symmetry tools — mirror your edits across the map to create balanced layouts faster
  • Zoom and pan — zoom in and out with the mouse or keys, and pan the camera freely

A note on the editor

This is a first version — it covers the essentials for making playable skirmish maps, but expect it to grow over time. If you try it out and run into issues or have suggestions, let us know.
